American Baptist Churches – USA

The basic principles of our faith:

We're basically a mainline Protestant church.

We believe in certain freedoms, variously expressed, that along with their concomitant responsibilities define what may be unique about us:

Freedom of conscience - the freedom and responsibility of each individual to with God's help work out our own faith expression;

Bible freedom - the freedom and responsibility to engage in serious study of the Bible using the best resources as helps;

Church freedom - the freedom of each American Baptist Church to identify and organize itself without 'answering to' another level of church;

Religious freedom - the freedom to be free of government support and interference and the responsibility to expect no establishment of church by the government.  We believe in social justice and work or contribute at local, national and international levels to assure it.

Principles and practices of our faith that especially motivate our participation in IFC:

Those principles that reinforce and support Christ's dictum to feed, clothe, visit and otherwise assist those who need it.  We are glad to join with other faith groups and social agencies in Fort Collins to accomplish what we could not do alone.

Primary community outreach / mission / service / involvement activities:

We house Elderhaus programs.

We participate in Neighborhood Night Out, hosting a cookout for our immediate neighborhood.

We host the community on the Fourth of July, providing water and other small items for those enjoying the community fireworks.

We participate in Make a Difference Day, usually undertaking to rake the yard of those in our neighborhood and church who can't do it for themselves.

We anticipate being a support church in the Interfaith Hospitality Network for Fort Collins.

We are the Partner Church to Dunn Elementary, providing help for the Christmas of those families that need it, donating office supplies.  We also have a family that has "adopted a family" for special occasions.

We set monetary goals for contribution to national and international ministries for humanitarian and disaster relief activities around the world.

Benefits we derive from participation in the Interfaith Council:

We derive the benefit of regular information about what others in the community are doing, so that members of our congregation might participate.

We enjoy the association with other people who find our joint mission more important and fulfilling than any doctrine which might distinguish us.  At the same time, we enjoy learning about those distinctive beliefs and principles.
